That must be the longest title ever written on WhatWeBlog! Delirium Studios has just announced they are developing a puzzle-platformer for the Nintendo 3DS called The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and His Square Mind. It should come out on the eShop this winter.
Baron Von Sottendorff is an aristocrat in the early 20th century. He doesn’t know it, but he is really living trapped in a grid drawing of his mansion, created by his own lunatic mind. The game will combine platforming with puzzles in beautiful scenery created from artistisc elements and references.
The player has to free Von Sottendorff from his own madness. You do this by overcoming the challenges that appear along the way. As you solve the different levels, you will receive objects that will help you unlock memories from his life. The more memories you get, the closer you are to regaining is sanity.
Von Sottendorff is a non-traditional take on the classic platform-puzzle genre as the good Baron explores the constructs of his madness. Rather than just control one character, players can also manipulate the 200 rooms in the game by using the touch screen to solve puzzles.
“Ever since the announcement of the 3DS, I’ve always wanted to create a platform game that blended elements of different genres that could use the 3D effect to give users a different perspective on how to solve puzzles,” said Arturo Monedero, co-founder and creative director of Delirium Studios. “The dual screens allowed us to let the user control the Baron and the position of each room independently of each other, the end result being some insanely devious puzzles.”
For now, it seems like it’s a mix of Professor Layton (in style and with puzzles and mistery) and Super Mario 3D Land (platforming and using the 3D-aspect to solve puzzles and find secrets). The game should be released this winter on Nintendo 3DS and will contain 8 different worlds, 40 challenging levels and 18 different types of enemies. You can see some beta-gameplay below.
